In its 50-year history, VNG has planned, built, operated, documented, monitored and maintained thousands of kilometres of pipelines and several underground storage facilities. For VNG, the benchmark has always been to comply with quality, safety and environmental specifications as well as the relevant laws and regulations governing the operation of gas plant.
Maintenance of high-pressure gas grids
As a service provider for the network operator ONTRAS - VNG Gastransport GmbH and other partners, VNG operates and maintains high-pressure gas grids and the associated technical plant. To this end, VNG deploys intelligent planning, control and documentation systems which enhance the productivity and the long-term safety and stability of plant.
Operation and maintenance of underground storage facilities
VNG holds responsibility for the planning, technology, operation and maintenance of the four underground storage facilities in Bad Lauchstädt, Bernburg, Buchholz and Kirchheilingen (including the Burggraf-Bernsdorf underground storage facility). VNG operates the above-ground facilities, is responsible for automation and process technology and monitors the proper functioning of the measurement and control equipment. The top priority is to ensure safe operation and the security of supply.
Technology and Research & Development
VNG is not only concerned with the operation and maintenance of existing plant, but also invests in new technologies. The company cooperates with partners in Germany and abroad on applied research projects, for example in the fields of gas technology as well as energy transformation and utilization. Showcase projects are the development of a micro-cogeneration plant, the European CO2 SINK project in Ketzin, the CCS partnership with Vattenfall and Schlumberger to capture, transport and store CO2 from power stations (German State of Brandenburg) and the scientific and technical cooperation with the Russian company OOO GAZPROM, e.g. calculations and project management for ejectors at the Bernburg underground storage facility.
Technical services
Gas, water, liquids and power supply networks require extensive operational management to guarantee technical safety and the security of supply. VNG offers these services via its ‘Verbundnetz plus’ sales platform.
VNG has also successively expanded its technical service offering in close cooperation with partners over recent years. For example, together with four partners, the company now offers a full range of technical services for the supply and disposal industry under the LEICONET brand.
