Corporate Social Responsibility

For us at VNG, social responsibility means much more than successful survival in the energy industry and the safeguarding of viable long-term jobs. Together with committed members of the public, we are also taking responsibility for the common good. We believe that improving development opportunities for children, juveniles and young adults is a vital sphere of activity whose importance will continue to grow.

Through our own initiatives, we aim to promote the recognition and appreciation by society for work that is done on a voluntary or honorary basis.

Specifically, the VNG Foundation supports charitable and social projects in fields such as culture and the arts, science, education, social issues and universities.

Verbundnetz der Wärme

VNG’s “Verbundnetz der Wärme” initiative under the patronage of Wolfgang Thierse, Vice President of the Bundestag, has been supporting social projects run by people working in an honorary capacity in the states in eastern Germany and Berlin since 2001. The public platform seeks to create greater understanding and support for the work of these people in both society and the media. The initiative now has over 150 members.

Deutsch-Russischen Rohstoff-Forum e.V.

In cooperation with the Russian company OOO Gazexport, VNG supports “Deutsch-Russischen Rohstoff-Forum e.V.” The objective of the forum is to develop strategies for the more effective use of fossil, mineralogical and alternative raw material resources. To this end, the participating universities are planning international research projects to produce, process and recycle raw materials as well as the founding of an international graduate school for raw material management. In addition, annual raw material conferences are held alternately in Russia and Germany.

Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics - Responsible Conduct

In 2008, the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics launched the initiative "Investing in Trust" as a response to a loss of trust in the market economy system, in business corporations and their decision makers. In the course of this dialogue process an initiative of companies was created which developed the "Code of Responsible Conduct for Business", which has now been signed by the heads of 42 leading German companies and respected SMEs, all of whom express their commitment to the principles and positions of responsible conduct for business with a view to regaining the public’s trust in industry’s decision makers. This process is also proactively supported by the VNG Foundation.
