Verbundnetz für kommunale Energie
This network is where VNG joins municipal office bearers and mandate holders in a cross-party platform for municipal energy. The objective is to develop concepts to improve the economic framework for municipal authorities.

Forschungsstelle Kommunale Energiewirtschaft
VNG also supports the interdisciplinary research unit called “Forschungsstelle Kommunale Energiewirtschaft” at the business science faculty of Leipzig University. The unit provides scientific support for municipal authorities in responding to new energy policy and energy industry issues.
Verbundnetz der Wärme
VNG’s “Verbundnetz der Wärme” initiative under the patronage of Wolfgang Thierse, Vice President of the Bundestag, has been supporting social projects run by people working in an honorary capacity in the states in eastern Germany and Berlin since 2001. The public platform seeks to create greater understanding and support for the work of these people in both society and the media. The initiative now has over 150 members.

Formation tour “Mauerfälle”
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution in 2009, VNG purchased a section of the original Berlin Wall which had been personally signed by the “fathers of unification” – Dr. Helmut Kohl, George H.W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev. Since then, this section of the Wall has been traveling on an educational journey through German and European cities, encouraging a dialog with young people, stimulating an exchange of ideas on the future, and helping to prevent the creation of new walls.

Verbundnetz für den Sport
VNG supports mass and elite sports. The “Verbundnetz für den Sport” initiative fosters the sporting talent of young D to B cadre sportsmen and –women from eastern Germany. Apart from providing material and equipment, these young talents are mentored by former world champions and Olympic medal winners.

VNG-Campus
The “VNG-Campus” initiative supports and encourages international cooperation between German, Norwegian, Polish, Russian and Czech universities, as well as promoting research and assisting studies relating to the energy industry. One main aspect of the initiative is scholarship awards to students and scientists..

The partnership with the art world in eastern Germany plays an important role in the corporate identity of VNG — Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft. As a major company active in the region we feel a commitment to creating or preserving the freedom art needs to develop and thrive. It is very satisfying to see the parallels with the growth of our own achievements. We began our commitment to contemporary art from eastern Germany in 1990 and we have created a forum for artistic creativity in the form of collections, calendars, exhibitions and books which mirrors this talent.

Deutsch-Russischen Rohstoff-Forum e.V.
In cooperation with the Russian company OOO Gazexport, VNG supports “Deutsch-Russischen Rohstoff-Forum e.V.” The objective of the forum is to develop strategies for the more effective use of fossil, mineralogical and alternative raw material resources. To this end, the participating universities are planning international research projects to produce, process and recycle raw materials as well as the founding of an international graduate school for raw material management. In addition, annual raw material conferences are held alternately in Russia and Germany.
